Mobile Dashboard (Today Tab)

Last updated 15 April 2026

Mobile Dashboard (Today Tab)

The Today tab is your daily command centre on the OpenChair mobile app, showing your upcoming bookings, live metrics, team status, and AI-powered business insights all in one view.

Where to find it: Tap the Today tab (dashboard icon) in the bottom tab bar. On tablets, the Today tab is the first item in the vertical rail on the left.

TL;DR

  • The Today tab shows greeting, timeclock, today's metrics, next 3 booking cards, Venue Pulse, team schedule, and who's clocked in
  • Swipe booking cards left to reveal quick Arrived, Complete, or Check Out actions
  • Staff members see a simplified view with only their own bookings, not venue-wide metrics
  • Pull down to refresh manually; kiosk mode auto-refreshes every 60 seconds

Overview

The Today tab lets you:

  • See a personalised greeting and today's date at a glance
  • Clock in and out with a single tap (when timeclock is enabled)
  • View live metrics: appointment count, revenue, and remaining bookings
  • See your next upcoming bookings with swipe actions for quick status changes
  • Receive AI-powered insights from Venue Pulse about your business health
  • Monitor which team members are clocked in and their schedule status
  • Complete onboarding with the Getting Started checklist

The Today tab refreshes automatically when you pull down on the screen.

What the Today Tab Shows

The dashboard is divided into sections that appear from top to bottom. Not all sections are visible to every role. Owners and Managers see the full dashboard, while Staff members see a simplified view of their own schedule.

Greeting

A personalised greeting at the top of the screen shows your first name and a time-appropriate message (e.g., "Good morning, Sarah"), plus the venue name and today's date.

Clock In Status

When the timeclock feature is enabled for your venue, a Time Clock card appears.

When clocked out:

  • Shows a "Clock In" button (green).
  • Displays the venue name beneath the "Time Clock" heading.

When clocked in:

  • The card background turns green.
  • A live elapsed timer shows your shift duration in hh:mm:ss format, updating every second.
  • A "Clock Out" button appears.
  • If the shift exceeds 8 hours, a "Long shift" warning badge appears and the card background turns amber.

Stats Strip (Owner and Manager only)

A horizontal card with three metrics for today:

Metric Label Tap action
Appointment count "Appts" Opens the Calendar
Revenue "Revenue" Opens Intelligence
Remaining bookings "Left" Opens the Calendar

The stats strip is hidden if all metrics are zero (e.g., no bookings today).

Venue Pulse (Owner and Manager only)

A single AI-powered insight card highlighting the most important thing about your business right now, a cancellation spike, waitlist opportunity, quiet day, or great day. Tap the CTA button to take action, or dismiss the insight for the rest of the day with the X button.

See Venue Pulse for full details on insight types and how they work.

Next Up

The "Next Up" section shows your upcoming bookings as cards. The dashboard shows up to 3 booking cards:

  • If a booking is currently in progress, arrived, or ready to start, it appears first with a "Now" badge.
  • Upcoming bookings show an "Up Next" badge.
  • The same booking order is used on web, phone, and tablet so the top card represents the same operational priority on every device.

Each booking card displays:

Element What it shows
Time Start time and duration in minutes
Customer name Tappable, opens the customer profile
Service name The booked service (single line)
Staff name Shown with profile image for Owners and Managers viewing team bookings; hidden for Staff personal views and locked shared devices
Price Formatted booking price
Status badge Current booking status
Attention flags Up to 2 flags: allergy/patch test (red), VIP, birthday, first visit
Deposit badge Shield icon if a deposit has been authorised or captured

Routine confirmed bookings are intentionally kept quiet so urgent states such as Late, Arrived, Ready, Pending, allergy, or patch-test flags stand out.

Empty state (no bookings today):

  • Heading: "No bookings today"
  • Shows the active waitlist count if clients are waiting, otherwise: "Your schedule will appear here when bookings are added."
  • Buttons: "View Waitlist" (if waitlist has clients) and "Create a Booking"

All done state (all bookings completed):

  • Heading: "All done for today"
  • Shows a summary: completed count and total revenue

Swipe Actions on Booking Cards

Swipe a booking card to the left to reveal quick action buttons:

Action When it appears What it does
Arrived Booking is not yet marked as arrived Updates the booking status to "Arrived"
Complete Booking is ready to complete and is fully paid Marks the booking as completed
Check Out Booking has an outstanding balance Creates a checkout order and opens the checkout screen

The "Now" card also shows a complete button directly on the card: "Mark Complete" (if pre-paid) or "Complete & Check Out" (if a balance is due).

Tip

On your first visit, the first booking card shows a subtle left-edge hint to teach you about the swipe gesture.

Team Schedule (Owner and Manager only)

When the venue has more than 3 bookings across all team members, a "Team Schedule" section appears showing each staff member's day at a glance:

  • Staff name and avatar
  • Booking count and time range (e.g., "4 bookings - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM")
  • Status line: "All done" (green checkmark), "Next: [customer] - [service] - [time]", or "In progress: [customer] - [service] - until [time]"

Tap any staff row to navigate to the Calendar. A "View full schedule" link at the bottom opens the full calendar view.

Who's In (Owner and Manager only)

When the timeclock is enabled and the Team Schedule section is not shown, a Who's In card appears showing how many staff are clocked in, with overlapping avatars.

  • Tap the card to navigate to the Timesheet.
  • If no one has clocked in: "No staff clocked in yet today"
  • On tablets, the card expands to show each staff member's name and clock-in time. Shifts exceeding 12 hours show a warning icon.

Getting Started Checklist (Owner and Manager only)

For new venues that haven't completed setup, a "Getting Started" checklist appears with a progress bar and steps for: Services, Hours, Staff, Assignments, and Payments. Each step links to its relevant settings screen. The checklist disappears once all steps are completed or skipped.

Role-Based Visibility

Stats Strip Yes Yes No
Venue Pulse Yes Yes No
Next Up All team bookings All team bookings Own bookings only

Staff members see a simplified dashboard: greeting, timeclock, a "My Schedule" heading, and their own booking cards.

Tablet and iPad Layout

On tablets and iPad, the Today tab uses a split layout:

  • Left column: Venue Pulse and Next Up booking cards
  • Right column: Team Schedule, Who's In, and Getting Started checklist

In kiosk mode with landscape orientation, Next Up cards display in a 2-column grid. Shared-device views keep the same booking order and action meaning, but hide staff identity and suppress non-essential client context.

Pull to Refresh

Pull down on the Today tab to refresh all data: bookings, metrics, Venue Pulse, and timeclock status. In kiosk mode, the dashboard refreshes automatically every 60 seconds without manual intervention.

Kiosk Mode

When the device is in kiosk mode, the Today tab shows a simplified view:

  • The Kiosk Header Bar replaces the greeting (venue name, mode status, current time)
  • Only the Next Up booking cards are shown
  • Staff names and profile images are hidden
  • Only essential attention flags, such as allergy and patch test, are shown
  • Stats strip, Venue Pulse, Team Schedule, Who's In, and Getting Started are hidden
  • Auto-refreshes every 60 seconds

See Kiosk Mode and Shared Devices for setup details.

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Stats strip is not showing any numbers The stats strip is hidden when all metrics are zero. It also only appears for Owners and Managers. Staff members do not see venue-wide metrics.
"No bookings today" but I know there are bookings If you are a Staff member, the Today tab only shows your own bookings, not the full team schedule. Check with your venue owner to confirm bookings are assigned to you.
Clock In card is not visible The timeclock feature must be enabled for your venue. Ask your venue owner to enable it in the venue settings.
Swipe actions not working on a booking card Swipe actions are not available in kiosk mode (locked shared device) or on bookings that have reached a terminal status (completed, cancelled, no-show).
Dashboard data looks stale Pull down on the screen to refresh. In kiosk mode, the dashboard refreshes automatically every 60 seconds.
